Celebrating a Black Business Luminary: Percy "King" Creuzot III
In celebration of Black History Month, the Texas Black Expo shines the light on a Black business luminary who has been a cornerstone of Houston’s business community, providing access, opportunities, mentorship and leadership to many local Black entrepreneurs. Mr. Percy Creuzot III, owner of Frenchy’s Chicken, is a Black business legend.
While most Houstonians who have had the privilege of experiencing Frenchy’s fried chicken, dirty rice, greens and biscuits at its original 3919 Scott St. location know Percy Creuzot as simply “Mr. Frenchy’s” or “King,” the reality is that he is so much more than the owner of the most famous chicken shop in Houston’s history.
Creuzot sits at the helm of a family operation, which in addition to Frenchy’s Chicken, owns Frenchy’s Sausage Co., which has been in business for 46 years. Out of this enterprise, the family produces sausage, boudin, rice dressing, gumbo, etoufee, chorizo and other products that can be found on the shelves of grocery stores like H-E-B, Fiesta and Food Town, among others.
Mr. Creuzot’s operation is no small enterprise; his processing plant is housed in a 15,000 square foot facility, and his revenue from Frenchy’s Sausage alone generates more than $4M annually. Additionally, his Frenchy’s Chicken locations bring in an additional $4 million in annual revenue. Consistently offering quality products and service has undoubtedly contributed to his success.
Creuzot is also a visionary who always has his eyes on expansion. He has secured contracts with commercial organizations like Sysco Corporation to sell his products in healthcare facilities like the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Additionally, to add to the 33 locations Frenchy’s already operates throughout Texas, Creuzot plans to open 500 Frenchy’s restaurants from the west coast to the east coast over the next decade. The first location outside of Texas will be located in Atlanta, Georgia.
A graduate of Texas Southern University, Percy Creuzot III is widely known throughout the city of Houston as a philanthropist who loves to support local Black organizations. For decades, he has remained an avid philanthropic partner of his alma mater, Texas Southern University, as well as the NAACP, the Urban League, the Texas Black Expo, and many other nonprofit entities.
From startup nonprofits to churches, countless organizations have been on the receiving end of Creuzot’s generosity with in-kind food donations. In any way he can, Percy Creuzot III is committed to providing support for the community that helps his customers.
