TBE VIP Photo Reception featuring Earvin “Magic” Johnson Friday, May 19, 2023 | 10 am | Marriott Marquis Houston
It was the hottest ticket in town, and it delivered on every level: the Texas Black Expo VIP Photo Reception with Earvin “Magic” Johnson made the dreams of more than 100 guests come true.
The VIP Reception, which was held at downtown Houston’s Marriott Marquis Hotel immediately before the Corporate Luncheon, was a who’s who that featured some of Houston’s best-known corporate power players and community influencers.
The sold-out event kicked off with the recognition of TBE’s 2023 Texas Titans, a group of esteemed corporate partners who have helped us to advance our mission over the years with their notable investments in underserved communities. This year’s Texas Titan honorees included:
Cynthia Marshall (Dallas Mavericks), Asif Dakri (Wallis Bank), Roland Parrish (Parrish Restaurants), Dr. Shantay Grays (Houston Community College), Shawn Taylor, James Harris (H-E-B), Mark Walker (Digital Direct Holdings), Ron Reynolds (Texas State Representative), Al Rucker (Hattitude), Deavra Daughtry (Excellent Care Management), Dr. Lesia Crumpton Young (Texas Southern University), Danyel Surrency Jones (Amazon), Lincoln McKinnon (Crowe), and James Smalls (HP).
Immediately following the Titan award and recognition ceremony came the time everyone had been waiting for – professional individual photos with the Summer Celebration’s featured guest, Earvin “Magic” Johnson. One by one, guests were invited to greet the celebrity businessman and smile for the camera for their personal photo.
Guests were delighted to discover that immediately following their photo, they could enter their phone number into a portal in the room and immediately access their professional photo, downloading it to their phone or email for immediate sharing. In fact, guests began sharing their prized photos with the NBA legend before the Corporate Luncheon even began.
The Texas Black Expo wishes to congratulate and extend its gratitude to all of its Texas Titans, for it is power players like these who work quietly behind the scenes to ensure that communities of color have access to the resources and support needed for small business sustainability, economic advancement, and wealth building.
