20th Anniversary Summer Celebration Consumer Tradeshow
Saturday, May 20 – Sunday, May 21, 2023 | 12 pm – 5 pm
George R. Brown Convention Center, Hall E
A robotic dog, a flight simulator, makeovers and manicures, juice samples to alleviate health ailments, a Black matchmaking service, collard green seasonings, African imports, bath and body products and more are just a small sampling of the scores of businesses that attendees at the 20th anniversary Texas Black Expo Summer Celebration tradeshow had the opportunity to interact with over the course of the two-day event.
Exhibitors in Hall E of the George R. Brown Convention Center understood the assignment; they provided delicious samples, live demos, trial size products, explainer videos, promo items and more to potential customers who wandered from booth to booth as they sought out products and services to suit their lifestyle.
The most successful exhibitors (which vendor testimonials reveal were many) were able to generate immediate rev through on-site sales, book appointments, and capture hundreds of new sales leads to follow up upon, post-Expo for future revenue generation.
One of the key highlights on the tradeshow floor included Beauty Under One Roof, which featured live hair styling demos, guest speaker and panel presentations about hair and scalp health, and more. At this stage tradeshow guests had the opportunity to sign up for slots to have their hair styled by professionals before a live audience.
Another highlight on the tradeshow floor was the STEAMvention exhibition, an area devoted to advancing science, technology, engineering, arts, and math among young boys and girls of color. Inside of this exhibit, young attendees were able to engage in a series of fun, hands-on, interactive learning experiences designed to pique their interest in STEAM.
In the midst of the buying and selling, there was also a plethora of entertainment originating from the Texas Black Expo’s main stage. The audience could be seen dancing and grooving and could be heard throughout the tradeshow hall cheering or erupting with laughter as various organizations and panelists delivered crowd-pleasing presentations.
Urban Trivia Live held several rounds of a comical, music-driven Black trivia competition that left guests rolling with laughter. LaTerras Whitfield hosted “Dear Future Wifey” pop-up, a live version of his popular podcast.
Other main stage presentations included a “Black Women & Money, Power, Respect!” panel featuring Magic 102.1’s Sky Houston, “Hustling Higher with Social Media, Branding & Digital Real Estate” featuring Dessie Brown and Alquinica “Akanundrum” Selolwane, Real Estate Investments 101, and a Business of Hip-Hop H-Town Legends panel with Madd Hatta, Kiotti Brown, and Lil Keke.
All in all, the 20th anniversary of the Texas Black Expo Summer Celebration was a tremendous success! The Texas Black Expo wishes to thank all of its corporate sponsors, community partners, exhibitors, volunteers and tradeshow guests for making the event one of the best ever in our organization’s history. We could not have done it without you!
